SPICE TOUR
The Spice Tour is one of the most popular excursions in Zanzibar, the Spice Island. Zanzibar was one of the world’s leading producers of spices such as clove, nutmeg and cinnamon. Tour takes you to on organic farm with wide variety of plants around the year. You don’t just see, you also touch, smell and taste.
This tour is a walking tour in a spice farm (shamba). While there, you shall see how the spices, herbs and fruits grow and are cultivated. Your tour guide will describe how the crops can be used.
STONE TOWN
The Stone Town of Zanzibar is a fine example of the Swahili coastal trading towns of East Africa.
One of the best things to do in Zanzibar, in order to get a true understanding of the island, is to take a walking tour.Stone Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Centre and one of the most interesting places I’ve ever been to in my entire life. Seriously.
Whilst I’d say that taking a tour isn’t necessary and it’s absolutely fine to have a wander on your own, having a guide for a few hours will provide a great insight into the island.
Some of the best things to do in Stone Town (have a read of my dedicated Stone Town post) include the House of Wonders, the Old Fort, Freddie Mercury’s House, St Joseph’s Cathedral, the Hamamni Persian Baths, Jaws Corner, the Abeid Curio Shop and the Zanzibar Cultural Arts Centre.
DIVING AND SNORKELLING
Offshore from Tanzania’s coast and islands are some first-class sites for snorkelling and diving – and between the keen divers in Expert Africa’s team, we’ve dived quite a lot of these.
North of Zanzibar, Pemba Island has some excellent dives, although because of its currents, which are sometimes quite strong, we recommend it for more experienced divers.
South of Zanzibar, Mafia Island is a lovely quiet spot, with a lagoon which suits learners and newly-qualified divers, and more challenging wall dives outside the lagoon where big fish make for very exciting dives.
DEEP SEA FISHING TRIPS
Zanzibar Watersports is based at the northern tip of the island. Advantageously, this enables our clients to enjoy some of Africa’s best deep sea fishing grounds. The channel between Zanzibar and Pemba in particular, is an internationally renowned site consistently providing first-rate big game fishing opportunities.
With large schools of Barracuda, Wahoo, Kingfish and Giant Travelli in the area all year round, and seasonal visits from many other species such as Marlin, big game fishing with Zanzibar Watersports will be thrilling experience you will never forget!
SAFARI BLUE
Safari Blue is known to be Zanzibar’s best boat trip!
You start in the small village of Fumba on the south coast, sailing on a traditional dhow to Menai Bay where dolphins you have the chance to see and swim with dolphins. Snorkelling is the order of the day and you have chance to explore the reefs. Lunch is a seafood buffet that includes fresh lobster, fish, calamari, chicken and veggie options served on a sandbank. Drinks are also included!
It’s a full day trip, so in the afternoon you sail to Kwale Island take a ride on a Ngalawa canoe, explore the mangroves, see an ancient baobab tree and relax on the beach before sailing back to Zanzibar at sunset.
